What do smokejumpers, the CIA, and Hmong have in common? Did you know Minnesota has the 2nd largest Hmong population in the US? How many tones does the Hmong language have? What are those beautiful Hmong embroidery story cloths all about? We will explore these questions and more in this introductory course. This presentation will include interactive activities, stories, and videos to showcase Hmong history, culture, and language.
Kao Nou has taught Hmong language and culture classes for K-12 students, college students, and adults. She is currently a social work professor at Augsburg University in Minneapolis. Her research is focused on Hmong American youth identity, Hmong oral traditions and ways of knowing, and developing culturally-grounded services.
