District Chess TournamentSTEMElementary and secondary chess players are invited to participate in the ISD 833 Spring District Open. Whether you participated in a chess club or not in the fall, you are invited to compete in this short, fun tournament. Great for your first tournament experience. Time controls will be used when necessary to keep the tournament within time constraints. The format and recognitions will be based on the number of registered participants in each grade level and school. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins will be accepted. Those arriving after the posted start time may need to sit-out of the first round of play. Tournament etiquette and procedures will be explained at the event for players new to tournament play. Players are not eliminated. Everyone plays in each round unless there is a bye because of an odd number of participants. Typically there are 4–5 rounds. Check-in will be 30 minutes before the posted start time. Supervision will be provided. Parents/guardians are allowed to stay, but are asked to wait outside of the playing area during matches.Spring 2025

Jr EngineeringSTEMIf learners like building and figuring out how things work, they will love this class. Join us as we explore, investigate, and solve problems while learning about simple machines' engineering building blocks. Students working in pairs will enjoy hands-on activities using LEGO® Gears and unique LEGO® Technic® engineering components that incorporate math, science, and creativity. They will then use what they learned to solve challenges. Learning projects may include mini mechanical concept models, a moving dragon, scale, clown, crane, car, fan, merry-go-round, and more. Build-A-Bot CampSTEMOur Build-a-Bot camp will introduce your Jr. Engineer to the amazing field of robotics. Students will learn about sensors, motors and coding by building and programming LEGO robots in small groups. We will also build a robot kit from OWI, the Agent bot or the Cyber Crawler that they will take home. Yes, batteries are included! Throughout the week we will play with a variety of robots, use color to program Ozobots, build our own robot hand, design our own bristlebot. The highlight of the week will be building their own OWI kit robot that they will take home and more. We will use the design cycle and add sensors to our LEGO robot so it can take on new challenges. Attention Scouts! This camp fulfills some of the key requirements for the BSA Robotics merit badge and the Girl Scout series robotics badges. This camp is for Jt. New! Advanced Build-A-Bot CampSTEMIf you want a real robotics challenge this camp is for you. In this camp we will focus on building one of our favorite kit robots of all time, the OWI Arm Edge. The OWI Arm Edge is a fully articulated robotic arm with 5 degrees of motion. The best part is your young engineer will get to take it home! Batteries are included. This is a large complicated kit, so we will spend most of the week building the arm. Once your Jr. Engineer finishes their OWI arm we will break out my LEGO robotics kits and build and program a variety of robots. 3D Printing: Jewelry Fabrication & ArtsSTEMBring your creations to life in this 3D printing class. The ancient craft of jewelry making is brought to the modern world using TinkerCAD and 3D printers. Drone RacingSTEMStudents will learn how to fly like the pros in the Drone Racing League by training on a flight simulator. Once they learn the basics of flying, they’ll assemble their very own drone which they’ll get to keep after the camp. After learning drone safety and maintenance, students will take their drone to the skies and compete in numerous races and challenges. Led by experienced instructors, students will leave camp with the skills and knowledge to pilot their drones and keep them running.
