Do you have someone close in your life who has experienced the death of a spouse? Are you wanting to understand better how to support them through your words and actions? Of course we all know that grief doesn't end when the funeral is over. So how do you keep showing up for this person you love?
Learn from two people who have walked the winding, twisted road of grief. Their journey also included a greatly expanded role at home as single parent carrying for children, taking over the financials, and managing all indoor and outdoor home responsibilities. Instructors Carrie and her cousin Megan were widowed young, 41 and 50 respectively. They realized there is a lot of widow/er information out there, but it can be SO overwhelming, where does one start? Also, most of it is for the widow or widower, not the family and friends. They know that family and friends want to help but just don't know how. Often we are too scared of our own mortality and grief or even too nervous for fear of making the pain worse. Carrie & Megan have created a simple tool for you using the acronym S.U.P.P.O.R.T. Together they want to share what helped AND what didn't so you can leave energized with practical strategies to support the ones you love. The information shared is applicable to supporting people experiencing other types of grief as well.
Carrie Mortrud became a widow at age 41. Through this unexpected crisis, Carrie gained a deeper understanding of the importance of support from her family and friends. At the same time, she recognized some people's offers were helpful and others (though well intentioned) were not. Carrie and her cousin Megan (who also became a widow at age 50) desire to share what they learned in the hopes of providing practical tips for those wanting to support loved ones experiencing grief. Carrie is a Registered Nurse and long time informal instructor for many adult learners on a variety of topics. She loves to present and teach through experience and discussion with participants. She loves building community through connecting with others and sharing her own experiences.
