    SoWashCo Community Education offers a variety of activities, trips, resources and educational programming for adults age 50+ in a welcoming environment where social engagement thrives. Are you recently retired and missing your network of co-workers? New to the area? Love to play games? Take local trips? Meet new friends? Stay fit? Learn new skills or develop a hobby? Our Adults 50+ programming is designed to meet the social, educational, health and human service needs of people 50 and over. Join us for an exciting lineup of weekly activities. Whether you're interested in Bingo, Bunco, 500, Farkle, Lighten Up, Mah Jongg, Book Club, Mexican Train Dominoes, Hand & Foot or one of our support groups such as our Diabetes Support Group, your membership allows you to attend as much as you want ... all at no cost. Membership is only $15/year! That means it's just 32 cents per week or 7 cents per day to participate! And if the $15 is still a hardship, let us know. No one will be turned away due to finances. So whether you are ready to play a game of cards, discuss a book, exercise, or attend local trips and tours, there is something for you at SoWashCo Community Education.

Our Adults 50+ programming is designed to meet the social, educational, health and human service needs of people 50 and over. Join us for an exciting lineup of weekly activities. Whether you're interested in Bingo, Bunco, 500, Farkle, Lighten Up, Mah Jongg, Book Club, Mexican Train Dominoes, Hand & Foot, monthly potluck or one of our support groups such as Weight Loss, Diabetes Care, Grief Care, and Caregiver Group. These activities are all part of your yearly membership as well as some other special events that are free or reduced price for members throughout the year such as lunch and learns, workshops, birthday bashes and more. Members also receive a discount on footcare appointments. Membership is only $20/year! That means it's just 38 cents per week or 5.5 cents per day to participate! And if the $20 is still a hardship, let us know. No one will be turned away due to finances. So whether you are ready to play a game of cards, discuss a book, socialize at a potluck, exercise, or attend local trips and tours, there is something for you at SoWashCo Community Education.   • St. Croix Pontoon Ride & Fishing! Hastings/Prescott - FREE (Age 50+ Day Trip)

    Hastings Rivertown Fishing and Boating serves seniors, veterans and those with disabilities through fishing and boating excursions. Once you register, information on where to meet will be provided. Trip is only available to the first 10 people! Register today. Go to sowashco.ce.eleyo.com or call 651-425-6605. All life jackets and fishing supplies are provided. If you fish, you must purchase a Minnesota license ahead of time. (Single day cost is $12.) Or you may simply enjoy the ride! Note: this is for age 50+ only. No children or teens, please.
  • Stillwater Boat Trip & Downtown Shopping - Adult Day Trip

    Enjoy a fun fall day with a scenic St. Croix river boat trip with Stillwater Boat Company. The boat will depart Stillwater at 11:30am. Enjoy the scenes while you enjoy a sandwich buffet bar with all the Delicatessen Meats & Cheeses, Sandwich Trimmings, Fresh Seasonal Fruit, Potato Salad, and a Cookie. Buffet includes water and a choice of coffee or a soda. Arrive back to the pier at 1:30pm and have some time to explore the local downtown shops of your choice: some include Midtown Antique Mall, Stillwater Antiques, specialty shops or indulge your sweet tooth at Barbara Ann’s Fudge Shoppe, Candyland or Tremblay’s Sweetshop all within walking distance from the Boat company. We will meet back and board the bus at 3:45pm for a 4pm departure to head back to Hastings and Cottage Grove. Reservation deadline is Wednesday, September 4th, 2024. Plan to arrive ready to board the bus at the District Program Center at 10:00 a.m. for a 10:15 a.m. departure. You will return at approx. 4:45 p.m. to Cottage Grove District Program Center.
  • Adult 50+ Monthly Birthday Bash

    We want to celebrate our members' birthdays! Come and enjoy a low cost lunch while celebrating all the members with birthdays for that month. Lunch will vary. If it is your birthday that month you'll get free admission. We encourage our birthday members to bring a fun item for "show and tell". We will have a time to share a story, photo, keepsake item or something fun about yourself. Registration is required so we get enough food. Registration will close one week prior to the birthday bash celebration. A Birthday Bash meal is FREE for Center Members celebrating a birthday during the month. You must call or register online to reserve your birthday meal. Non-birthday-month members pay $10. Non-members pay $12.
  • Bayfield & Apostle Island, Wisconsin - Adult Overnight Trip

    September 24-26, 2024 This three day motor coach tour is $785 per person (2 per room) or $970 per person (1 per room). Travel with Community Education as we head to one of the most beautiful places around! You'll enjoy a narrated Apostle Island cruise, a tour of Madeline island and a stop at Bayfield Winery. You'll also be treated to a special Victorian luncheon at the Old Rittenhouse Inn in Bayfield. Enjoy the rich history and extraordinary natural scenery on majestic Lake Superior. Trip includes deluxe motor coach transportation, lodging for 2 nights, meals (two breakfasts, three lunches and two dinners) and tickets for the attractions. A $125 per person deposit is due by Friday, August 2, 2024. Final payment is due Friday, August 16, 2024. Payments are not refundable after deadline. Plan to board the bus on Tuesday, Sept. 24th at 6:30 a.m. for a 6:45 a.m. departure from the District Program Center, 8400 E. Point Douglas Rd. So., Cottage Grove. Bus is estimated to return early evening on Thursday, September 26.

    Come join us to see and celebrate the exciting activities we have planned for the 2024-2025 school year! Meet the staff, our volunteers, and learn more about the Adult Age 50+ weekly and monthly activities offered at our District Program Center. You'll also be able to meet over 20 helpful representatives from local community resources. Sign up today! The first 150 people who walk through the door on Sept. 30 will get a ticket for a free boxed lunch to be picked up at this event! There will be opportunities for door prizes as well!   • Lanesboro, MN Fall Foliage & Amish Country Tour - Adult Day Trip

    We are off to beautiful Lanesboro, MN and scenic Bluff Country of Southeast Minnesota. This is a fun and educational experience through the Amish countryside of Southeastern Minnesota. You’ll meet our Amish friends and explore their farms and shops where they make exquisite wood furniture, handmade quilts, baskets, leather goods and much more. We’ll also stop at an Amish bakery filled with fresh bread, pastries and treats. As we travel to each location, your guide will explain about the Amish culture and learn about the families we meet. After our tour we will enjoy a meal at the Pedal Pusher in Lanesboro and stop at Pepin Heights store for some apples and treats on our way home. Fee includes: Transportation, tour and lunch. Please choose your lunch option when you register: 1) Chicken Pot Pie, 2) Fish & Chips, 3) Burger. Drinks include Water, Iced Tea, and Coffee. Registration deadline: September 13, 2024. Plan to be at the District Program Center in Cottage Grove by 6:45 a.m. for a 7:00 a.m. departure. We will return approximately 5:45 p.m. Cost is $99 per person.
  • Tundra Swan and Migration Tour - Day Trip for Adults

    In late October and mid-November, a swan interpreter takes you along the migration corridor of the Mississippi River. Witness the impressive concentration of tundra swans. At the Brownsville Wildlife Overlook, swans blanket the river in a sea of white and echo a unique song across the River Valley. We've include a stop on the way for coffee, muffin and to check out hand-carved carousel(additional cost to ride), memory lane antique toy museum(free) and other specialty items at L.A.R.K. Toys in Kellogg, MN. Then we'll be on to our main event where Jim Nissen, Swan Tour interpreter, will guide us through a variety of stops along the migration route based on where the swans currently are. After the tour, we'll stop at the Blue Moon Restaurant in Onalaska, WI. Lunch includes their soup of the day plus a club sandwich. After lunch we'll visit the Onalaska Upper Mississippi River National Fish & Wildlife Refuge Center. The River Walk exhibit allows you to "walk on water" and see what lies below the surface of the river. Let's enjoy this unique outdoor adventure together! Plan to board the luxury motor coach at the District Program Center in Cottage Grove by 7:45 a.m. for an 8 a.m. departure. Bus returns by approx. 6 p.m. Registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 11.
  • Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" Musical at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater - Adult Day Trip

    Join us for this fun musical by Irving Berlin. "White Christmas" is a classic! Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander. With a dazzling score featuring well-known standards including “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano,” “How Deep Is the Ocean” and the perennial title song, White Christmas is an uplifting musical sure to bring delight.
